The Drum's Rhythm is the Heartbeat of Mother Earth
Bill Henderson is a Native Artisan Carver and Drum Maker. He embodies the traditional craftsmanship of First Nations People. He has studied Native cultural and spiritual traditions for the past 40 years. Native elders have given him the traditional teachings to make native hand drums. He taught drum making in Alberta for years and has given many people the opportunity to create their own ceremonial healing drums…the Heartbeat of Mother Earth
This workshop begins with a smudge and sharing circle where the traditional teachings of owning a native hand drum are discussed and each participant will have an opportunity to focus on his/her intentions.
Each participant will then choose the hide and hoop. Hoops are lovingly made by Bill Henderson and are 15 inches in diameter. 16 pieces of cedar are used to make the hoop, representing the sacred numbers in the native traditions.
The hide is then strung onto the cedar hoop with guidance from Bill on how to make the drum strong and balanced while it is being played.
The workshop will end with a tribal smudging ceremony to bless and bring the drum to life connecting it to the heartbeat of Mother Earth.
Your new drum will take 2-3 days to dry and it is recommended that you allow the images within the drum hide to appear before you choose to paint over them.
